Car parks are among the most camera-dense environments that receive the least active monitoring. Surface and multi-storey car parks typically have extensive coverage, but that coverage feeds into systems that are reviewed after incidents rather than monitored in real time. The result is a documented record of incidents that could have been intervened in, and were not.

Vehicle crime in car parks follows recognisable patterns. Catalytic converter theft, keyless entry relay attacks and opportunistic break-ins each have behavioural signatures: unusual loitering near specific vehicle types, individuals checking door handles in sequence, groups operating at the perimeter of camera coverage. These patterns are detectable. They are not currently being detected.

Lone person safety in multi-storey car parks is a significant concern, particularly at night and in off-peak hours. Aggression, robbery and personal safety incidents concentrate in isolated stairwells, lift lobbies and upper levels during low-traffic periods. Detection that identifies the pre-incident conditions, an individual following another person, a confrontation building near a vehicle, gives your team or remote monitoring centre the ability to respond before the situation develops.

After-hours access is a separate monitoring requirement. Delivery vehicles and staff access in mixed-use car parks with retail or commercial tenants create a complex access pattern that after-hours detection needs to account for. Anomalous vehicle presence outside of normal patterns is the signal that standard recording does not surface.
