Large shopping centres operate between 200 and 800 cameras across mall areas, car parks, service corridors, retail units and food courts. A typical security control room runs four to eight operators. Crowd density is a particular concern. Food courts, atrium areas and sale events regularly produce crowd configurations that create crush risk. Unattended items in mall areas represent both a security concern and an operational challenge. Standard CCTV does not automatically identify an item that has been present without its owner for an extended period. Shopping centres fall within Martyn's Law. All venues with 200 or more capacity are within scope of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025.
