77,000 physical assaults on NHS staff per year. Most happen in front of cameras that are not watching.

01 / The Challenge in Healthcare
NHS staff face the highest assault rates of any public sector workforce.
Cameras record the incidents. They do not prevent them.
The NHS recorded 77,000 physical assaults on staff in 2022/23. A&E departments, psychiatric wards, mental health units and reception areas account for the majority, but incidents occur across the full estate. Most happen in areas with CCTV coverage. The cameras record what happened. They are not configured to detect what is about to happen.
Pre-aggression in healthcare follows observable patterns: escalating vocal behaviour, pacing, narrowing proximity to staff, arm and posture changes. Security teams and ward staff are trained to recognise these signals, but they cannot maintain that monitoring across a large A&E department simultaneously while also responding to patients.
Restricted area access is a separate but related problem. Clinical areas, medication rooms, equipment stores and server rooms require controlled access. Tailgating through secured doors, loitering near access-controlled zones and unusual movement patterns in restricted areas are all detectable signals that standard access logging does not capture.
Patient safety monitoring in wards, particularly for vulnerable patients at fall risk or patients at risk of self-harm, requires a level of continuous attention that staffing ratios cannot sustain. Detection that alerts staff to a stationary or unusual-posture patient provides a response layer that passive recording cannot.
“Pre-aggression has observable patterns. Detection that recognises them gives staff time to act.”
02 / Detection Capabilities
What Archangel detects in hospitals and healthcare
- Pre-aggression indicators in A&E, reception and ward areas: pacing, escalating proximity, raised arm patterns
- Restricted area breaches: tailgating through secured doors, loitering near medication rooms and clinical zones
- Patient safety alerts: stationary person detection and unusual posture indicators in ward and corridor areas
- Visitor management anomalies: individuals in clinical zones outside permitted hours or without escort
- After-hours intrusion into equipment stores, pharmacy areas and server rooms
- Car park and perimeter anomalies: aggressive behaviour and loitering near ambulance bays
03 / How It Works
Four steps. No new hardware.
- 01
Connect
We integrate with your existing CCTV infrastructure. No new hardware. No rip and replace. Live in under 48 hours.
- 02
Detect
Archangel monitors your camera feeds continuously, analysing behaviour patterns in real time across every zone.
- 03
Alert
When a relevant pattern is detected, your operators receive a specific alert with context clip and location. Not a motion trigger. An actionable signal.
- 04
Learn
The system calibrates to your environment over time, reducing false positives and improving signal accuracy for your specific site.
