01 / The Challenge in Nightclubs
Your licence depends on what your cameras can prove.
Standard CCTV records. It does not prevent.
There were 6,732 reported drink spiking incidents in England and Wales in the year to March 2023. The actual number is higher: most victims do not report, and many do not realise what happened until the following day. Your venue almost certainly has cameras covering your bars. None of them are configured to detect spiking-related behaviour as it happens.
Nightclub aggression follows a pattern that trained door staff recognise: the posture shift, the raised voice, the narrowing space between two people. But at 1am on a Friday with 600 people on the floor, no team can maintain that awareness across every zone simultaneously. The incident happens in the gap.
Martyn's Law applies from 200 capacity. Standard tier venues must have documented evacuation and lockdown procedures. Enhanced tier venues (800+) face a higher bar: a full security plan, a designated responsible person and demonstrable proportionate controls. The Security Industry Authority will be the enforcement body.
Licence reviews following incidents do not just look at what happened. They look at what steps the venue had taken to prevent it. An AI-monitored venue with documented alerts has a materially stronger position than a venue that can only show post-incident footage.
“Licence reviews ask what you did to prevent it, not just what the footage shows.”
02 / Detection Capabilities
What Archangel detects in nightclubs and bars
- Drink spiking-related behaviours at the bar: object introduction, distraction patterns, unusual leaning over drinks
- Pre-conflict aggression: posture changes, escalating proximity, raised arm patterns on the dance floor and in queuing areas
- Crowd density surges and dangerous compression in standing areas and near exit routes
- Loitering in controlled access zones, fire exit areas and staff-only corridors
- Unattended items and bag anomalies in seated and booth areas
- Tailgating through access-controlled entry and exit points
03 / How It Works
Four steps. No new hardware.
- 01
Connect
We integrate with your existing CCTV infrastructure. No new hardware. No rip and replace. Live in under 48 hours.
- 02
Detect
Archangel monitors your camera feeds continuously, analysing behaviour patterns in real time across every zone.
- 03
Alert
When a relevant pattern is detected, your operators receive a specific alert with context clip and location. Not a motion trigger. An actionable signal.
- 04
Learn
The system calibrates to your environment over time, reducing false positives and improving signal accuracy for your specific site.
Nightclubs are directly in scope of Martyn's Law. The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 received Royal Assent in April 2025 and comes into force in 2027. Standard tier (200-799 capacity) venues must have basic procedures in place. Enhanced tier (800+) venues must meet a higher standard of documented, proportionate security.
AI behaviour detection gives you real-time monitoring, documented alert logs and evidence of proactive intervention. When the SIA reviews your security plan, that documentation matters.
