How Much Does AI CCTV Cost in the UK? (2026 Guide)

AI CCTV pricing in the UK: what affects the cost, typical subscription ranges, ROI calculation, and how it compares to traditional monitoring costs.

How AI CCTV pricing works

AI CCTV systems in the UK are typically priced as software subscriptions layered on top of existing camera infrastructure. You are not paying for new cameras. You are paying for the intelligence that makes your existing cameras useful in real time.

The most common pricing models are per-camera monthly subscriptions, where you pay a monthly fee for each camera feed connected to the AI system, and site-based subscriptions, where a single fee covers all cameras at a given location up to a maximum number of feeds.

Entry-level AI CCTV for small venues with 10 to 20 cameras typically starts from a few hundred pounds per month. Mid-market venues with 20 to 60 cameras generally fall in the range of 500 to 2,000 GBP per month depending on the provider and the detection capabilities enabled. Larger sites with extensive camera networks or multiple locations are typically quoted individually based on scope.

These figures are for the AI software subscription only. If your cameras are old, have poor resolution, or are not IP-enabled, there may be costs to upgrade the camera hardware. In most modern venues, the camera infrastructure is already in place and compatible.

What affects the price

Several factors affect what you pay for AI CCTV:

Number of camera feeds. Most providers price by camera or by tier based on camera count. More cameras means a higher subscription. However, the per-camera cost often decreases as volume increases.

Detection capabilities. Some providers offer a base package with limited detection types and charge more for additional models. A system that detects violence, crowd density, and perimeter breaches will cost more than one that only detects perimeter breaches. Full behaviour detection suites cost more than single-capability add-ons.

Contract length. Annual contracts are typically cheaper per month than monthly rolling agreements. Some providers offer significant discounts for two or three-year commitments.

Support and response service. Some operators want 24/7 monitoring by a human team that receives alerts and contacts them. This is an additional cost on top of the AI platform itself. Others manage alerts internally, which keeps the subscription cost lower.

Integration requirements. If you need the system to integrate with existing access control, alarm systems, or security management software, there may be integration costs. Most standard IP camera connections are straightforward and included in the base subscription.

Typical ROI calculation

The return on investment for AI CCTV comes from several sources, not all of which are equally easy to quantify.

Reduced monitoring staff costs. If you currently employ staff to watch CCTV monitors, AI detection can reduce the headcount required. A monitoring team that previously needed three people to watch 60 cameras continuously may be able to operate with two people responding to AI-generated alerts instead. At 35,000 GBP per person per year including on-costs, one FTE reduction pays for most AI CCTV subscriptions many times over.

Reduced incident costs. Incidents have direct and indirect costs: legal fees, compensation, management time, insurance claims, and the cost of investigation and remediation. A single serious incident in a venue can cost tens of thousands of pounds. If AI detection prevents two or three incidents per year that would otherwise have occurred, the avoided cost is significant.

Insurance premium reduction. Venues that can demonstrate proactive AI-powered security monitoring to their insurers have a stronger basis for premium negotiation at renewal. Hotels using AI detection systems have reported premium reductions of 10 to 15%. On a substantial commercial policy, that is a meaningful annual saving.

Compliance value. For venues with Martyn's Law obligations, demonstrating active security monitoring has direct regulatory value. The cost of non-compliance for an Enhanced Duty venue is up to 18 million GBP. The cost of a software subscription is not.

Comparison to traditional monitoring costs

The relevant comparison is not AI CCTV versus no security technology. It is AI CCTV versus the alternative security arrangements you would otherwise need.

A security guard covering an eight-hour shift costs approximately 120 to 180 GBP per shift, depending on location and specification. Covering 24 hours requires three shifts. At the lower end, that is 360 GBP per day, or over 130,000 GBP per year for a single guard post.

AI CCTV monitoring an entire site 24/7 for a fraction of that cost, while covering every camera simultaneously rather than one person's field of view, presents a straightforward value proposition.

The comparison is not that guards become unnecessary. Physical presence and response capability require human staff. The comparison is that the monitoring and detection function, the part that requires watching a lot of cameras and identifying events that require a response, can be handled by AI at significantly lower cost and higher effectiveness than by human operators alone.

Getting an accurate quote

To get an accurate quote for your site, you need to know how many camera feeds you want to connect, which detection capabilities are most important to your use case, and whether you want to manage alerts internally or have a monitored response service.

Archangel provides quotes based on site visits or video calls where we assess your existing camera infrastructure and understand your specific security requirements.
