Tailgating & Access Control
Detect unauthorised entry when individuals follow authorised personnel through controlled access points. Archangel identifies tailgating, door propping, and piggyback entry.
How It Works
Under the hood
Tailgating detection monitors access-controlled doors, gates, and turnstiles. The system counts the number of people who pass through after a single authorisation event (card swipe, fob tap, or code entry). If more than one person enters on a single credential, the system flags it.
The model tracks multiple tailgating methods. Simple follow-through, where someone walks closely behind an authorised person. Hold-and-wave, where the authorised person holds the door for someone behind them. And door propping, where an object is placed to prevent the door from closing and locking.
Each incident is logged with the number of unauthorised entries, the timing relative to the authorisation event, and the camera footage of everyone who passed through. This integrates with your existing access control system, matching the authorised credential holder to the physical entry log to identify discrepancies.
Why It Matters
The real-world impact
Access control systems are only as good as the behaviour of the people using them. Card-based systems know who swiped, but they don't know how many people walked through. Most tailgating goes completely undetected by traditional access systems.
Archangel adds the missing layer. It verifies that one swipe equals one entry, and flags when that rule is broken. For buildings with security compliance requirements, this closes the biggest gap in access control. For sites with sensitive areas, it ensures that physical access logs match actual access, which is essential for audit compliance and incident investigation.

Capabilities
What it detects
Purpose-built detection models tuned for real-world conditions and operational environments.
Multi-Person Entry Counting
Counts every individual passing through an access point after a single authorisation, flagging when the count exceeds one.
Door Propping Detection
Identifies when doors are held open or objects are used to prevent closure, maintaining a log of how long the access point remained unsecured.
Access System Integration
Correlates camera-based person counting with your access control system's credential logs to identify discrepancies between swipes and actual entries.
Entry Point Analytics
Generates reports on tailgating frequency by access point, time of day, and day of week, helping identify where physical security improvements are needed.
